Joel Albarella is senior vice president and head of New York Life Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of New York Life tasked with accelerating the pace of innovation at the company. Joel founded and has run New York Life Ventures since its inception in 2012. He is responsible for directing all activities of the group, including the sourcing and management of strategic venture capital investments and the implementation of technology testing and partnerships to boost New York Life’s existing businesses. Prior to founding New York Life Ventures, Joel served as New York Life’s director of strategy and mergers & acquisitions and as the chief of staff to the company’s chief investment officer and to the chief executive officer of the company’s asset management business. Allison has spent her career focusing on ways data science can help people address their most important challenges, from personal health to personal finance, and teaching others to find answers in data for themselves. It started with her work in operations research at MIT, where she earned her PhD studying how predictive modeling can help diabetes patients personalize their care. She then applied her expertise to helping bolster heart health as CEO of a health wearables startup and to identifying promising applications of data analytics as a consultant at Sequoia Capital. Allison has literally written the book on business analytics — “The Analytics Edge” — a popular textbook and edX course she co-authored while a lecturer at MIT. She’s also taught data science to business students at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Now, in leading data science at the core of the Assurance platform, she guides her team’s steadfast focus on the customer and constant exploration of data solutions to drive real-time decisions.

Greg Baxter is Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer at MetLife. Building on a career in technology, strategy and innovation, Greg is responsible for driving MetLife’s Digital strategy and execution globally. Greg has held senior business, consulting and technology roles across Asia, Europe and North America. Allie Burns is CEO of Village Capital. Before that, she spent seven years working directly with technology pioneers Steve and Jean Case, supporting their work in venture capital, philanthropy and impact investing. As a senior executive at the Case Foundation, Allie was responsible for oversight of the organization’s communications, marketing and partnerships functions. She worked on campaigns that helped build the field of impact investing; co-created the Startup America Partnership, a private sector initiative created in response to President Barack Obama’s cross-agency effort to promote entrepreneurship; and helped launched Revolution’s Rise of Rest campaign. Marcus Daley is the technical co-founder of Neural Metrics, a company at the center of using AI and NLP to speed insurance underwriting. This includes fully automating the classification and risk-based questions that are required to instantly underwrite a business. Marcus has been the CTO at Fortune 500 companies and small start-ups. This included time as a CTO for S&P Global where he led the technology efforts behind their Market Intelligence division, which provides essential intelligence to many of the world’s largest financial institutions. Working closely with leaders across various financial institutions he recognized a major gap in accurate business intelligence for micro, small and medium size private businesses. Russ is the current Head of Underwriting for Personal Lines at Farmers Insurance. In this capacity, Russ is charge of setting the strategic and operational direction for all underwriting related activities for Farmers personal lines products. He leads and manages a talented staff of roughly 100 personnel serving in both the home office and in various field underwriting capacities. Russ graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York with a Bachelor of Science in Management. He began his professional career by serving his country with distinction for over nine years of service in the United States Army. Juliette is a professional water resources engineer turned entrepreneur. Juliette is a passionate and driven individual, inspired by social good and solving big-impact problems. After seeing the devastation of the Queensland 2011 floods and then the Calgary, Canada 2013 flood, and how each impacted on friends and family, Juliette was motivated to improve flood preparedness and response. In 2018 Juliette founded FloodMapp with her co-founder Ryan Prosser. FloodMapp combines traditional hydrology and hydraulic modelling techniques with big data analytics and machine learning; to offer predictive flood mapping aimed at helping insurers prevent loss and improve the customer experience in the moments that matter. Prior to FloodMapp, Juliette worked as a consultant and water resources engineer for over ten years specialising in flood modelling, hydrology, surface water management, and water supply planning. Throughout her career, she has worked at Golder Associates, Seqwater and Jacobs, gaining experience with different climates and hydrological challenges across Australia, Indonesia and Canada.

Alex has over a decade of experience in advising and investing in early and growth stage software startups. At ScaleVP, Alex focuses on opportunities in business software (marketing, sales, HR, finance) and vertical software (financial services, commerce, etc). He is a Board Director at KeepTruckin and a Board Observer at Root Insurance, DroneDeploy, and Forter. Prior to joining ScaleVP in 2013, Alex was at Crosslink Capital where he worked on investments in Bleacher Report (acquired by Turner) and Flurry (acquired by Yahoo). Prior to Crosslink, Alex was at investment bank Montgomery & Co. providing advisory services to Internet and software clients. Some of his clients included Club Penguin, MySpace, and LegalZoom. Pranav is a pioneer in deploying AI, big data and the IoT in the insurance industry. As a reformed industry executive, his mission is to bring insurance out of the 1800s and into the 21st century. To achieve this, Intellect SEEC, is developing technology to personalize insurance coverage and pricing down to an individual, as easy to buy as name in – policy out, and slash cost by more than 80%. Pranav is a widely recognized thought leader, publishing a number of related articles and speaker at industry events.

Ashley joined Bain Capital Ventures as an investor focused on financial and insurance technology. Ashley is involved in all aspects of the investment process, including sourcing, due diligence, transaction execution and portfolio company support. Prior to joining Bain Capital Ventures, Ashley spent two years as a management consultant in McKinsey & Company’s strategy and corporate finance group. At McKinsey, she advised financial services clients on strategic investments and growth opportunities. Ashley graduated summa cum laude from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where she concentrated in finance.

Roel Peeters is the CEO & Co-founder of Roost. Mr. Peeters is a serial entrepreneur with over 20 years of startup experience ranging from enterprise software to consumer electronics and semiconductors. Before starting Roost in 2014, he was the co-founder of Ozmo Devices, a pioneer in low-power Wi-Fi. Ozmo delivered the enabling technology for the world’s first WiFi mouse (marketed by HP) and the WiFi remote control shipping with the Roku 3 box. Mr. Peeters is a co-inventor of low-power Wi-Fi Personal Area Networks (PAN) technology and successfully created a worldwide standard known as “Wi-Fi Direct”. Ozmo was acquired by Atmel in 2012. Mr. Peeters received his MBA from The Wharton School and an MSEE from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium.

Nino Tarantino leads IMS as CEO of the Americas after serving as CEO of North America for Octo Telematics from 2010-2018. An insurance telematics industry leader, Nino grew Octo from inception to $50M in only 4 years after its launch. Mr.Tarantino was named Influencer of the year at the 2018 Telematics Detroit Awards and won best telematics product in 2017. Nino earned his Master’s in Telecommunications Engineering in Rome and began his career with Telecom Italia. He later held management positions with Iridium, the first global satellite phone company, Anoto/Ericsson and Acotel where he launched one of the first premium SMS/MMS services in North America with the 2004 Olympics coverage.
Victoria is an operator turned investor with a track record of scaling revenue from the first customer to hundreds of millions of dollars across enterprise, SMB and consumer sectors. Most recently, she was CRO at Kabbage where she built the revenue functions from the ground up to over two hundred million dollars. She led marketing, product development and sales for the membership division of Metris Companies, which became the 10th largest credit card company in the U.S. She has also led divisions of Fortune 50 public companies and served as CEO of a mid-sized legwear and skincare manufacturer. Prior to joining Munich Re, US, Jean served as Senior Vice President, Innovation Hub and Direct-to-Consumer business at MetLife. Her focus was modernizing insurance with lean innovation and leading cross-functional teams in digital transformation. Jean is a certified Scaled Agile Leading SAFe 4 Agilist. She completed executive training at the Jack Welch School of Leadership in Crotonville, NY, as well as MetLife’s Executive Leadership Program at Harvard Business School. She served as the U.S. Chair for MetLife’s Global Diversity & Inclusion Task Force and on several nonprofit boards focused on education. Jean earned a B.S. in marketing from Oakland University, Rochester Michigan.

Based in Palo Alto, CA, Hippo has reimagined home insurance through the lens of homeowners – building policies with more comprehensive coverage for today’s consumers at up to 25% less than competitors. The high-growth company is valued at more than $1 billion and has expanded its footprint to offer products to more than half of the US homeowner population in less than 2 years. Prior to Hippo, Wand was founder and CEO of Sabi, which designed and produced elegant everyday products (Sabi was acquired in 2015), a consultant with McKinsey & Company and an investor with Intel Capital. Ty is a recovering actuary with over 30 years of insurance experience including senior leadership roles in Life, Long-Term Care, Structured Settlements, Annuities, Medicare Supplement and Insurance Mergers & Acquisitions for companies including First Colony Life, General Electric, Genworth Financial and Aetna. Ty’s greatest accomplishments are by far his two daughters, Beth and Kim. He is an avid golfer, frequent industry speaker, and very active in government relations work. He holds a BS degree in Mathematics from Liberty Baptist College and the actuarial designations MAAA (1989) and FSA (1992).
Jenny Xia is a founder of FreeWill. She was previously at Bain Capital, where she helped start the impact investing fund, McKinsey, and a cofounder of Paribus, a fintech company that exited to Capital One. She was recently named Forbes 30 under 30 and Town & Country’s Top 50 Philanthropists. FreeWill description: FreeWill provides free online wills that makes it easy for people to donate to charity. This has generated over $1B in commitments to charity. Their mission is to move over $1T into high-impact charities.
